The F Family~ Worth the wait
Posted on June 2, 2011
Worth the wait to post this session which I am embarrassed to say was shot over a year ago. Two of the most fabulous people and I was lucky enough to watch them go from friends to falling in love. Their wedding is my favorite I have ever photographed and isn’t there some sort of rule that it’s ok to send out thank you’s up to one year after the wedding? Well this month is one year anniversary and so I think I just made the cut off for posting wouldn’t you say?

What a fun session this was. She was all about the piano and when I asked her if there were any other talents or hobbies we could showcase during the session she said, “Well I paint.” I was blown away by an image she showed me on her phone of a ballerina she had painted. As usual I got just as excited about the shoot and all the things we were going to do as she did (maybe even a bit more). Love being with people who are creative and isn’t funny that we all show it in different ways. Put a paintbrush in my hand and you will get nothing good, but in her hand she can paint something amazing.

The M Family~Gilbert Maternity & Newborn Photographer

My conversation with this cute mom was all about photographing her soon to be born baby until I asked her if she had already done a maternity session. When she said no and this might be her last we both looked at each other and I said when are you due? She laughed and said next week and I laughed and said I don’t even have one opening. Oh but what if we just squeezed in a quick mini session before my shoot that was scheduled for the following monday, it could work as long as she didn’t go into labor. We both had our parts to do, me add another session to a packed schedule and her just keep that baby in. If we had just let it go there wouldn’t be this……

Clients seem to always become friends and oh the things I hear sitting in the studio with them as we go over images and orders. I think it must be like a hair salon where you just end up hearing about all the funny and sometimes sad things that go on in people’s lives. This family made such an impression on me the first time we met and planned out their session. I shopped with them for their clothes and knew all the reasons why this session was so important to them. You can never have too many friends especially ones like these.

I think I have shot at this location at least 20 times this year and am sad to say the owner bulldozed it a few weeks ago. It was the perfect spot, had great light and was my little private orchard or so I thought. The owners were always great to me and I was good to them. Funny that I actually feel a little miffed that they didn’t check with me first to see if I was ok with them selling off part of THEIR land. Oh well I guess I better start looking for my next little spot to get me through 2011 Holiday Season:(
Enough of my complaining and on to this darling family who has quite possibly the most adorable kids. I could hold that baby on my lap all day, and I don’t think she would do anything but smile. Can’t wait to see how their wall gallery comes out when their canvases are framed and up.

Every now and then you do a session that has a purpose other than getting great family shots. Like when you want to become a parent and need to do that through adoption. An amazing gift from women who are selfless, willing, and oh the patience of those who wait to be chosen. This session was for an adoption profile and I can’t say enough how darling and fun this couple was. We had a piano out there, a drooling dog and a husband who I must say was quite a trooper and we all know husbands are literally allergic to getting pictures. Can’t wait to do another session for them with 3 in attendance….

Another fun family whom I’ve decided must have the best family dinners. They are hilarious are darling and I know they had just as much fun as I did playing on the hay and hanging from the truck.

Love, love, love surprises…..who doesn’t! My sister had a beautiful baby girl whom needed photographing even though she lives in Washington and I am only there in the summers. So she called and said she wanted to book a ticket for me to come up and do her newborn shots which I told her that would be great but I was waiting on a date from a client so I just couldn’t commit for another week. Little did she know I had already booked a ticket right after my niece was born and I planned on just showing up and surprising her. Just after landing and being picked up by her mother-in-law she called. “Do you know when you can come?” to which I replied, “I think I will know by tonight.” She then proceeded to tell me about the crazy day she had with her two boys and new baby and I was so glad help was on the way. As we turned down the road to her farm I called her to say, “I know when I can come, I think I could even be there tonight.” Needless to say she was confused but when I told her I was pulling up and couldn’t she hear the dogs barking she got it. Best surprise ever and I think we got some beautiful shots.

Farmer Dave~ Country Singer Living Legend~Washington Photographer

You know when you throw out that you know someone famous….come on we all do it. Well I know Farmer Dave who is a legend on the Palouse. All of his songs are original and tell about living life in the country. He’s working on his second Album Cowboy Serenade which is what we shot these images for. If you are ever up that way check him out at the Green Frog where he’s a bit of a celebrity. He draws quite a crowd but his wife Marti always gets front row. Sometimes during the summer he lets me play a few songs in the shop with him where I pretend to be Jewel (if you know me well you’ll be laughing).

I think this one is my favorite…
